Patrick and Nanette were treated to a fantastic Maori experience in Northland. Coming into the wharf on a steam boat to be greeted in the old ways by a cluster of traditionally garbed Maori on a hilltop, led by a descendant of Hongi Hika, Hone Mihaka. The warrior standing in the water disappeared before their eyes and a spine tingling cry went up... During his tour, Patrick developed an interest in the New Zealand blue (paua) pearl. Learning of this, we reconfigured his Waiheke wine tour, and escorted him to the New Zealand Mint, where he spent a couple of hours with an expert and made a substantial purchase.
