Queenstown Day
Winemaker, Grant Taylor
New Zealand Pinot Noir was put on the map in Central Otago by Gibbston Valley. Their winemaker was Grant Taylor. Grant is acknowledged as one of the New Zealand "fathers" of pinot noir. Having spent 15 years in Napa Valley and Burgundy, Grant returned to Central Otago to pioneer the pinot noir grape at Gibbston Valley vineyard. He took this through to a number of international gold medals.
Grant now runs his own vineyard, Valli Wine, and kindly spends the occasional day with our clients. This looks at his vineyard, how and why he plants like he does, his winery, terroir tastings of a number of different pinot noir and riesling wines, barrel tastings and a nice relaxed lunch.
Where clients have shown interest in specific vineyards or wine varieties, Grant has catered to those.
