A special itinerary making use of some favourite places and liberally served with a number of our custom signature activities which help the traveller get an in-depth appreciation of what really makes New Zealand. Well away from standard commercial and off-the-shelf itineraries.
Sensibly priced from NZ$60,000 (USD$42,054) for a couple, there is room (as usual) to go both up and down in terms of budget. By adding or removing days, adding or removing experiences and substituting different levels of accommodation, transport and service.
For us, this is a "highlights" tour - introducing you to the country through some very special people and places. We have never actually sold one of these off the shelf as our clients are individuals with individual likes and passions. What we have here represents a fraction of what is possible in New Zealand, but a carefully selected fraction which gives the traveller with limited time an excellent and enjoyable insight.
Arrive Auckland International Airport. VIP escort through priority exits and onto your private helicopter for a beautiful 15-minute flight over Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf, landing directly at your lodge, Delamore. Enjoy a complementary spa treatment before a private gourmet dinner. Delamore is in our opinion the pre-eminent lodge in Auckland with lovely views and food which delights.
Auckland is known for having the most pleasure craft per capita of anywhere in the world. The reason is the Hauraki Gulf, a beautiful stretch of water protected by a number of islands and a pair of peninsulae.
Today we suggest a day on the water on either a luxury yacht or a luxury launch.
Alternatively - there is a lovely 8km hike of Karekare Beach, the romantic black sand beach filmed in The Piano over on the West Coast.
Other options include a wine and art tour of Waiheke Island or a day in Central Auckland with a landscape garden designer.
Your helicopter will pick you up from the front lawn after breakfast and take you down the spectacular Coromandel coast, before heading out to sea and landing in the middle of the active volcanic crater at White Island. After a walk around the crater, reboard your helicopter for a scenic flight over Rotorua's geothermal areas, gliding onto the lawn at Huka Lodge for lunch. Huka is known as the pre-eminent lodge in New Zealand.
Relax for the afternoon.
The Maori welcome is an integral part of New Zealand culture. Today we propose a day where you are driven 90 minutes deep into the mountains in a 4WD by a Maori chef/hunter. On arrival at a 5,000 acre block of Maori land, you will receive a passionate chief's welcome, followed by a traditional Maori feast and then a sharing session with the warriors and ladies. After this, a helicopter will whisk you back to Huka Lodge.
These are warriors who welcome heads of state, win national competitions, and one is a highly successful master carver. the meal incorporates all sorts of wild and hard to find delicacies.
Day of rest at Huka Lodge or select from:
- wilderness fly fishing
- wilderness rafting
- horse riding
Fly from Taupo to Queenstown. Drive 90 minutes north to this small intimate lodge with some of the best views in the country - Silver Pine. The owners are a lovely couple and the food is excellent. It has been described as very relaxing and like staying at a friend's country house.
Spend a day with the owner of the lodge discovering the Wild West Coast - a place of rugged beauty and rugged people. Mike has given us special access to an individual who still mines greenstone and another who still finds gold and will introduce you to these characters.
Drive an hour south to meet your private jetboat. See how they
operate in a narrow canyon and along a braided river before taking the
wheel on lake Dunstan and having a play yourself.
Continue onto the top lodge in Queenstown, Matakauri.
A helicopter extravaganza over the wilderness area of Fiordland. This is the pristine wilderness which New Zealand is well known for. Our way of helping you discover it incorporates your own helicopter, able to stop wherever you want, a gourmet picnic and 3.5 hours of flying time make this the most comprehensive overflight of the area possible.
Spend a day with Grant Taylor - the man responsible for establishing Pinot Noir in this area. With 15 years of training in Napa Valley, and a few more in Bordeaux, Grant has quite a number of gold medals under his belt and is very happy to share with you how he does it. The day can be as intensive or relaxed as you wish with vineyard visits, barrel tastings, and an insight into how this very new area is developing fast every year.
Alternatively - offroad tour; horse riding; extreme sports; fly fishing; hunting.
