Christmas/New Year Availability

The New Zealand tourism season is now in full swing and we and our partners are flat out once again delivering above expectations to sophisticated travellers.  Luckily, the weather is starting to stabilize so there have been few weather-related cancellations.

Clients are again impressed with the country - and I cannot emphasize enough again the very high quality of the locals.  The excellence of lodges is always remarked upon, beauty of countryside, extra-ordinariness of activities - but most of all the genuineness and friendliness of the people.  Underlying it all though is surprise at the high cost of this country as a destination.  More and more luxury travellers are refusing to pay top lodge rates and it is our belief that these rates were sustainable when the exchange rate wasn't artificially high, and when there were very few such lodges here.  The laws of supply and demand, with new luxury accommodation coming on stream all the time - must surely mean that we will soon see a decrease in top luxury accommodation rates.  No one should consider themselves immune from market pressures.  

But that's not the point of this article - we just wanted to point out that there are some pockets of availability in very good places over Christmas and New Year - ready for that impulsive last-minute booker.
