Connections
I was trained as a corporate strategist, my Masters thesis was about the future of IT, my childhood was spent travelling through inhospitable places. The future, and especially the future of travel has always been a passion of mine. Not satisfied with the two-dimensional (crispy green) rewards for a standard job, I've always pushed further as you will have seen from other newsletters in this collection. Why do people travel? What makes New Zealand so appealing? What will the luxury traveller demand tomorrow? What will New Zealand look like tomorrow? In which direction should we drive Ahipara?
There is no doubt in my mind that our clients are focused on depth as a primary consideration. Sure, there are all sorts of other important factors - style of accommodation, transparency, control, balance, quality etc etc. But why do people leave the comfort of their homes, endure the increasingly unpleasant process of getting from A to B and spend large amounts of money on something which will always, in the planning stages, be nothing more than a collection of vague promises?
The answer? To discover, to learn, to evolve, to make connections, to enjoy, to create memories and warm connections. Connections again and again. Connections between people. Connections between neurons. Connections between ideas. Epiphanies, self-realisation, increasing personal capital and enjoyment, enjoyment, enjoyment.
What do mainstream luxury travel companies deliver? Expensive hotel rooms, private transfers and the occasional exceptional experience. We don't believe this is enough and have from the beginning (ten discovery-filled years ago) been sourcing, coaching, selling the people who can deliver on our clients ambitious expectations. Wonderfully, amazingly, happily, we've been quite successful.
