Poronui - Taupo

One of my favourites in the Taupo region and something truly different. A 16,000 acre property in the mountains on one of the country's top trout rivers. The fishing is rightly acknowledged as some of the best in the country, and this is the place where Sika Deer were introduced into New Zealand. In a country made famous by luxury versions of wilderness fishing and hunting lodges, it's nice to visit one which still engages in those activities. This is slightly more than just luxury accommodation in the Taupo region.

Overseen by the incomparable Eve, this is a place where nothing's a problem and something can always be done.  Quite apart from the fishing and hunting, Poronui offers four wheel drive tours, mountain bikes and hiking as well as one of the best sporting clay shoots in the country. The food is often sourced on the property and

beautifully prepared, in a really quite relaxed atmosphere. With seven lodge suites, the 4-bedroom grand Blake House and the 2-tent safari camp, we have taken out the whole place a number of times for our clients.  The guides sitting down to dinner at the main lodge provide for some entertainment besides swapping travellers tales.
